It was so lovely to receive an update this week from Katie, Rochelle and Sarah from Queen’s University’s School of Nursing, who are currently in Atlanta Georgia on the CCUC International Nursing Programme.
Now in their final week, the girls’ trip has most certainly been action-packed and throughout their time, they’ve had the chance to:
- Observe the healthcare teams and witness the world-class facilities in the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Centre in the Arthur M. Blank Hospital.
- Explore Emory University Nursing Centre and its simulation labs and join classes there where they got to discuss and compare healthcare in Northern Ireland and the USA.
- Experience two weeks at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) where they split their time between the in- and outpatients departments of the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Unit.
This fantastic video put together by the girls sums up their trip but when asked how they would describe their experience in just a few words, they commented that it was “an eye opener”, “enriching” and “inspiring”.
Thank you to Katie, Rochelle and Sarah for sharing their trip with us and we can’t wait to catch up with you all when you’re back. We are delighted to have been able to offer this experience and are immensely proud of the how the girls have grabbed the opportunity. The future of paediatric nursing is in good hands with these three!
