Last week, our friends at Queen’s University School of Nursing and Midwifery held their annual celebration event which honours the hard work and achievements of students throughout the past year.
As part of our ongoing partnership, we were delighted once again to sponsor the Dr. Sid Dempsey Award which is presented to three student nurses who submitted a piece of work reflecting on their experiences in caring for children with cancer.
Huge congratulations and well done to the three recipients: Christabel Bakare (3rd), Emma Weir (2nd) and Lara Cowan (1st). We are excited to meet the girls soon and hear more about their work and what the award means to them.
Dr. Dempsey was the Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, who alongside patient families and nursing staff, founded the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity back in 1984 to raise the funds to build the dedicated Children’s Cancer and Haematology Unit.
More than forty years later, we are delighted to continue their work and to invest in the future of the Unit and its incredible staff through this important partnership and many other initiatives.
