The Children’s Cancer Unit was delighted to receive a very special donation recently from Cassandra Finnegan, in memory of her son Cameron.
Having spent time in the Unit, Cassandra knows all too well that days can be long, and it can be very hard to keep the children and young people entertained during stays on the ward or long days in clinic. So, Cassandra had got in touch with TheRockinR who supply interactive Medical Gaming Carts with the latest technology to children in hospital and we are delighted to share that both the ward and clinic have a gaming cart each, complete with the latest pre-loaded age-appropriate games for the X-Box and Nintendo Switch.
We are incredibly grateful to Cassandra for her donation, there will be lots of happy girls and boys who will have something more to occupy them when they come into the hospital for an appointment or a stay on the ward.
The RockinR Gaming Carts will help to minimise the effects of isolation, stress, and anxiety on children and young patients and in turn will help to promote recovery and well-being. Gaming promotes social interaction and engagement between healthcare professionals, patients, siblings, friends, and parents and research shows that during hospital stays or treatment, it can have an overwhelmingly positive contribution towards the well-being of both young patients and adults.
