The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity among 2024 charities chosen for the AIB Community Fund
13 Oct 2024
We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected as one of the 2024 charities that will receive funding through the AIB Community Fund.
A huge thank-you to all our followers, partners and supporters who nominated us!
We have been awarded £15,000 and this funding will help us to continue supporting children and young people in the Children’s Cancer Unit, and their families.
The funding will go towards using Virtual Reality and Play Therapy to reduce pain and anxiety during treatment and procedures. We are working with both the Play and Psychology teams in the Unit to provide the following items for children and young people:
- Teddy bears that will teach children how to draw bloods to prepare them for live procedures.
- Arts & Crafts sets (paints and canvases) for art therapy which will create memory pieces for families.
- Montessori Busy Boards– these will provide distraction, sensory stimulation and learning tools for babies and toddlers undergoing treatment.
- Lego Sets for six – ten year olds to provide distraction and calming support.
- Arts & Crafts cases so that children work on their own art projects.
- Ten sessions of music therapy.
- Two Virtual Reality sets that provide distraction for children and young people, helping to reduce anxiety and stress.
